Raditya Mahardhika

I am a designer and blacksmith from Bandung whose creative practice has grown from the intersection of interior design, metal craftsmanship, and my fascination with classic automotive design. My background in interior design has strongly influenced the way I understand form, material, function, and the relationship between an object and the people or spaces around it. Over time, these principles led me to explore blacksmithing as a medium through which I could express design ideas more directly through the physical qualities of metal.

As an interior designer, I have always been interested in finding a balance between aesthetics and function. I believe that a well-designed object should not only look visually appealing but should also have a meaningful purpose and create a particular experience for its user. This perspective continues to shape the way I approach metalwork. I create pieces that are strong and practical while also paying close attention to proportion, detail, and visual character. For me, an object can serve a function while simultaneously becoming an element that enriches a space or reflects the personality of the person who uses it.

My fascination with vintage automotive design has also become an important source of inspiration. I am particularly drawn to classic cars because of their clean lines, mechanical structures, durability, and the craftsmanship behind their construction. The relationship between form and mechanics in these vehicles encourages me to explore similar qualities in my own work. I translate this inspiration into metal through strong industrial forms, carefully considered details, and an appreciation for the raw character of the material. This combination allows my work to exist between contemporary design and traditional metalworking.
