The ambiguity became the starting point of the design. In collaboration with Yabolela Studio, I explored this idea through a dialogue between materials: forged metal provides the structure, while bamboo forms a movable armature that can rotate and redirect the light. The metal legs are shaped using a pineapple-twist forging technique, introducing movement and irregularity into the otherwise structural elements, while the base grips a neon rubber ball, adding a playful and unexpected point of color.
The combination of metal, bamboo, and rubber deliberately avoids a single visual identity, allowing each material to retain its own character. For me, ULO is less about designing a definitive lamp and more about creating an object that resists definition—an object whose function is clear, while its identity, character, and form remain open to interpretation.
